About Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

ACT is an evidence-based psychotherapy that enables people to be present, open up, and do what matters. We call that psychological flexibility.

ACT is a process-based psychotherapy combining elements of contextual behaviourism, mindfulness, and relational-frame theory into one set of actionable processes that help suffering people shift from ineffective action to effective navigation of life’s many challenges. ACT helps people get back in control of their lives.

Participants find it fun, light, human, relatable, and practical. During the therapeutic hour, the therapist works with the client to identify stuck-spots and learn and practice new skills that help to address the problems that come from difficult feelings and unhelpful thoughts. ACT treatment has been demonstrated in research settings to have exceptionally powerful therapeutic gain maintenance into the weeks and years ahead beyond time in treatment.
